About
I am a native of West Virginia and grew up in North Carolina and have had a (nearly) life long passion for history. I am interested in southern history and culture and American popular culture more broadly. I am the former director of public history at UNCC and still teach museum studies. I also have an interest in the campy and yet fascinating subject of wax museums and have visited several of them. My second book DREAMING OF DIXIE: HOW THE SOUTH WAS CREATED IN AMERICAN POPULAR CULTURE (UNC Press, 2011)has enjoyed strong sales this past year. I have an edited volume DESTINATION DIXIE: TOURISM AND SOUTHERN HISTORY forthcoming from the University Press of Florida, 2012.
